The Schlep Sisters are burlesque performers of the Jewish persuasion! Minnie Tonka and Darlinda Just Darlinda are long lost sisters who found each other while tracing the roots of Yiddish Theater and Vaudeville on the Lower East Side. Inspired by Manischewitz, The Barry Sisters, and Rock n’ Roll these ladies can cut a rug! The Schlep Sisters have been livin’ it up on stage together and captivating audiences across North America since 2004. From the New York, Toronto, Florida, and Dallas Burlesque Festivals to the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas and the Key West Burlesque Holiday Extravaganza, and their coast-to-coast month-long Australian tour, these sassy sisters have so much love they schlep it all over the world!

 

Magnolia Jackson Pickett Burnside:

Richmond’s Southern Fried Socialite, Magnolia Jackson Pickett Burnside has become a local celebrity with her bourbon filled antics and trash-talkin’ one-liners. Voted “Richmond’s Best Drag Performer” by the readers of Style Weekly for the past three years and named one of the “Top Five People You Cannot Live Without” by Richmond Magazine, Magnolia can be seen hosting “Little Show Peep” at Gallery 5, Wabi Sabi’s “Dragtastique Brunch” in Petersberg, and her newest endeavor, “The Haus of Della Robbia” variety show at Babes of Carytown. She would like to thank Jack Daniel’s for giving her the gift of gab and the courage to strip down to her lady parts for money…just like her Momma raised her!

“The Warrior of Burlesque,” Deanna Danger, is an international performance artist skilled in many genres, based in Richmond, VA. She is the Headmistress of Boom Boom Basics Burlesque & Performing Arts Studio, producer & director of Byrlesque At The Byrd, Richmond’s classic burlesque and vaudeville showcase at the historic Byrd Theatre, and founder & producer of national touring troupe, The Mason Dixie Burlesque Tour. She is Richmond’s reigning, voted “Best Burlesque Performer” and the 2012 1st place “Crystal Corset Award” winner at the Pennsylvania Burlesque Festival.

 

Minnie Tonka:

International burlesque star MINNIE TONKA hails from the Land of 10,000 Lakes – that’s Minnesota – but is based in New York City. Known as the One Woman Riot, Minnie’s theatrical, inventive, and flirtatious striptease has been dazzling audiences across the globe since 2004. Minnie is a multiple-time New York Burlesque Festival Golden Pastie Award Winner and was voted #14 in the Top International Burlesque Industry Figures of 2013. She’s the co-founder of Kosher ChiXXX Jewish Burlesque Revue, produces the annual Menorah Horah Hanukkah burlesque show, The Burning Bush VS. The Second Coming, and she produced and starred in Dangerous Curves Ahead: Burlesque on the Go-Go, the USA’s premier national touring burlesque troupe, and more. A solo performer who can be seen every night on stages across New York City, Minnie Tonka also performs as one half of The Schlep Sisters – the internationally acclaimed duo competed at the ‘09 and ‘11 Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas for “Best Group!” Minnie’s lusty hilarity has graced the stages of the Burlesque Hall of Fame as a Best Debut Contender 2011 and in the Movers, Shakers, & Innovators Showcase 2012, Reigning Queen of Burlesque in 2013, The New York Burlesque Festival, Toronto Burlesque Festival, Vancouver International Burlesque Festival, Show-Me Burlesque Festival, Midwest Burlesk Festival, Tease-O-Rama, and the Key West Burlesque Holiday Extravaganza. Minnie was a Featured Performer at the 2013 Minneapolis Burlesque Festival and in 2012, Miss Tonka was a Headliner at Girlesque in Toronto and the 4th Annual Dallas Burlesque Festival. In 2013 she toured Europe twice(!) and Headlined The International Stockholm Burlesque Festival and ahw was a Headliner at the first ever Florida Burlesque Festival in 2014. Minnie is a sought after burlesque performer and instructor and has toured the world, captivating audiences at packed houses in Australia, Italy, Finland, England, Sweden, Germany and across North America.

 

Darlinda Just Darlinda:

The Village Voice calls DARLINDA JUST DARLINDA a “Mastermind of Bizarre Extravaganza” and she has been working as a Burlesque Performer and Producer locally (NYC) and internationally since 2003. Darlinda is one half of the Burlesque duo The Schlep Sisters, co producing such shows as Menorah Horah and The Burning Bush vs. The Second Coming. Darlinda is a proud co-producer of Bushwick Burlesque. She’s also performed Off Broadway and on television; Darlinda performed with Taylor Mac in The Lily’s Revenge(Obie) and The 29th Annual Roots of American Music Festival at Lincoln Center. She can be found on television, on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. She’s lectured for Yale’s infamous Sex Week. She’s crossed over into performance art with her year long “life as art” projects Year in Dance and Year in Rainbow. Darlinda is a current faculty member at the New York School of Burlesque and BurlyCon and also teaches internationally. The Sundance Channel made Darlinda a “Top 10 Badass Burlesque Babe,” she was voted in the Top 50 International Burlesque Industry Figures of 2011-2013! Darlinda is the recipient of the Golden Pastie Award for The Most Innovative and Creative and The Brooklyn Nightlife Award Winner for Best Burlesque Dancer 2013 & 2014! USA Today says “It’s hard to top Darlinda.”

 

Deepa De Jour:

Deepa de Jour is the delectable dish! Her seductive style conveys an entire story with a shimmy, her lavish costumes mesmerize the audience with an exact sway of her hips, and her tantalizing glance takes the breath from the room. Voted the #2 burlesque performer in Richmond by Style Weekly, she has performed up and down the East Coast and produced two shows at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. She also produces the monthly Richmond Burlesque Revue, which is rounding out its 4th year at Gallery 5, along with a variety of burlesque fundraiser events. She is one-half of the synchronized stripping duet The Garter Snaps, and leaves a trail of glitter wherever she goes…

 

Puppie Buffé:

Puppie Buffé is a burlesque performer from Richmond, Virginia who’s “Easy on the eyes and hard on the tease.” She has been seducing audiences since 2008. From fire eating to fan dance, she is a “Jill” of all trades and loves to keep things interesting,letting her pieces vary from sultry and seductive to down-right goofy. Puppie has performed at many elite venues throughout New Orleans, New York and the Virgin Islands. She is also an official pin-up model for Original Sin Cider.

 

Maria Bella:

Baltimore’s Sicilian queen, Maria Bella, is founder of Gilded Lily Burlesque. She is a producer, trumpet player and burlesque performer whose acts are a mix of classic, cabaret and neo-burlesque. She uses cultural imagery, exotic flair, fantasy and world dance technique to bring clever concepts to the stage. She has performed in various festivals around the US and internationally, including The Baltimore PRIDE Festival, The Ashevillle Americana Burlesque & Sideshow Festival, The Great Southern Exposure, The Purrrlesque Burlesque Festival, The Texas Burlesque Festival, The Show-Me Burlesque Festival, The New York Burlesque Festival, queen category in the Southern Fried Burlesque Festival and The Toronto Burlesque Festival.

 

The Boomettes:

The Boomettes are Richmond’s kitchy, sassy and adorable select dance troupe of Boom Boom Basics Burlesque & Performing Arts Studio. Choreographed by Headmistress, Deanna Danger, the Boomettes perform both neo-burlesque hilarity and cabaret style with vintage vaudeville appeal. They have performed in productions at two historic Virginia Theaters, the Byrd Theatre in Richmond, and the Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville! Formed in 2012, the Virginia Burlesque & Sideshow Festival is their first festival appearance. The 2015 troupe stars: Scarlet Starlet, Smash, Onyx Storm, Lindy Avalon, Dixie Dumplin’, Jendetta and Saffron Soleil.

 

Melody Magpie:

“The Princess of the Burly-cute”, Melody Magpie is the only burlesque performer approved by internet cat sensation ‘Lil BUB. Known for both her kittening prowess and innate ability to make goofy faces, Melody is inspired by the classic style of the 1920’s, and the addicting appeal of internet cat videos. You can catch her performing locally in Richmond, Va., or traveling up and down the east coast.

 

Ellie Quinn:

Since 2011, Ellie Quinn has been dazzling audiences with her eclectic array of costuming and burlesque eccentricities all over the east coast! The Duchess of Dork uses her inner most fangirl to tease and tickle your funny bone. She performed in the first annual Vermont Burlesque Festival and Ohio Burlesque Festival, competed in Great Southern Exposure, and will be performing in the Las Vegas Burlesque Festival in November. Always upbeat and borderline absurd, you’ll want to catch a peek at this geek!

 

Zhora Nova:

Zhora Nova, “The beauty from beyond,” has been bringing both classic and nerdlesque acts to Richmond and D.C. stages since May of 2014. She’s studied under the Delectable Dish, Deepa De Jour, and is half of the burlesque duo, The Oubliettes.

 

Empress D’Naste:

Empress de Naste’ is the definition of opulence and nouveau riche. Her look echoes Old Hollywood glamour while her performance style juxtaposes contemporary and hip hop influenced moves to the art of classic burlesque.

Remember Ekel and Sisbert, the world-famous movie critics who dared to give four middle fingers down to “Miracle on 34th Street”? Well, your grandmother does, and boy is she going to be surprised to find out that they’re still alive and mocking, holed up in the balcony of the Byrd Theatre where they’ve apparently been sleeping for the past forty years and from whence technical crews have yet to bring them down (we’re working on it, but they keep fighting us off with broken canes yelling something about the “invasion of the Red Army”). We’re planning to slingshot cartons of eggnog laced with animal tranquilizers into their midst before the fun to keep them sedated during the show, and if we’re lucky, they’ll keep quiet. If we’re unlucky…
